Take a Peek at the ‘Material Girl’

As some of you may remember, Madonna’s 13 year old daughter Lourdes and she have a new collection coming out in Macy’s this August. The clothing is specifically for teens, after seeing the line I’d say it would be for the more mature teen. Evidently the line will be competing against Forever 21 and H&M (funny, Madonna designed for H&M in March 2007).

There has already been a website dedicated to the line as well as a Facebook and Twitter page. You’ll be able to buy ‘Material Girl’ online at Macys.com and at 200 Macy’s stores. The in store date, August 3. And the price point stays below $40 on average. The face of the brand, no not Lourdes, we’ve “heard” is going to be Taylor Momsen — Jenny Humphrey from Gossip Girl. I think the 16 year old is a perfect match for the fashion forward, music loving, fun, and adventurous clientele. And no she is NOT Miley Cyrus. She will represent the clothing very nicely. On August 3 there will be a national retail launch of ‘Material Girl’ at Herald Square and this new face of the brand will be there.

People have already seen sketches of the designs, but now we get to take a look at the actual clothing and accessories from the new collection. There will be special trendy items that are going to be above $40, such as the studded leather jacket and a crinoline dress with a built-in bustier. WWD describes the collection as full of “cabbage rose-print dresses, slinky bandeaux, cute blazers, tomboy cargo shorts, skinny denim, drapy oversize knits and lots of leggings in stripes and patterns”. Even some of the possible names for the handbags are Madonna’s song titles like, Lucky Star and Angel.

I’ve read some negative reviews about the line, seems as though people don’t think the line is anything too special. I think the expectations were a higher. But with 7,098 fans on Facebook and growing I don’t think ‘Material Girl’ has too much to worry about.
